Need a 1” scope mount...suggestions?

The more I look at Warne xskel gen 2 I'm liking it. Its american made and has metal insterts in the screw holes to keep from stripping and can be torqued to 25 in pounds. The only thing I don't like is that the rail nuts are on the the right side for some reason and are not interchangeable. I do like that that they are big, beefy looking nuts that cant be removed only unscrewing so far out and recommend 65 in pounds. They look heavy duty and I wont mar them up or round them off like other brands with round head screws with flat head inserts as i can use a socket to torque them. I wonder why Warne "MSR" mounts don't have alot of following? I did notice a good price drop lately. From $139 to $84. Maybe because they are coming out with a QD version? My rifle is all black so I probably will go black even though all the red and green color options are tempting. I figure I go with a zero MOA being I have a BDC recticle going in it for long range drops.

Whats the advantage from zero to 20 moa with a mount like this? Any advantages or disadvantages with a BDC recticle?

If i don't find any other mounts that do it for me Ill probably order a Xskel gen two next week.

looks like one of our sponsors has is for $71 shipped! Cheaper than the pepr.

Well I pulled the trigger! I went back on optics planet and they must have lowered their sale price...it’s now $41.00 plus free shipping for the grey warne 20 MOA MSR base!!!

I had to pay tax which came to $43.68. Guess I’m going to live with grey for that price. Sounds like they are 8 to 17 days out, I’ll wait for the pennies I paid for it. I most want to order a dozen and resell them for that price.

I just bought an Aero Precision 1 piece 1'' extended. I really like the look and how light it is compared to my bulky PEPR. Found it on Amazon for $66. Looks like the price went up to $72 now.

I just own an Aero M5 lower and love it. Great quality...I just haven’t shot it yet. The Areo one piece scope base, no thanks. It’s the lightest on the market and if I owned a 4/5lb AR I’d chance it. Seen a lot of complaints that they brake easily. There’s a lot of YouTube videos of the top part of the rings snap off easily and the goofy design causes the scope to rotate when tightening the rings. To wimpy for me. I’ve seen the bracket that tightens to the base brake as well. For my rock solid heavy AR10 I couldn’t care less about a few more ounces for a heavy duty, rock solid mount and know it’s not going to brake or come loose. I should have some answers and a $41 warne 20 MOA on the way in few more days.

Warne 20 MOA base on the way $46.99 shipped. I could have ordered black but stuck to tactical grey for some reason...the color grew on me! I’ll report back when it’s in my hands. Can’t wait!!! It is hands down imo better quaility than anything else in its class for the money. American made, metal inserts inside the scope rings to keep from stripping, and a no questions asked lifetime warranty. I can’t believe they aren’t more popular when doing forum and internet searches for them. I know they’ve come down in price it seems in the last year as well. Maybe at the old cost you had a lot of shooter go to Daniel defense and laure? I own a lt104 myself and as awesome as it is and I could have bought another around Black Friday for $167 vs another $100 I just couldn’t justify it on a rifle that I wanted a permanent mount.

I use ARMS Mounts on all my AR's.
I can take them off and put them back on.
Used them in the Gulf War.

Finally received my 20 MOA warne mount for $46.99 shipped. Went with tactical grey Instead of black again fro some reason even though my gun is all black. Just liked the look. Didn’t get it from optics planet for that price...I was asked not to reveal where I was given the price per company that honored the price because of the optics planet screw up. The first mount I received had one of the rings not perfectly aligned with the base. The second one shipped is a lot better. All the the rings lined up with the bases but just a hair over lapped on one side like the top of the ring is a hair wider. I could barely feel it when running my finger along it. The first base you could see the rear ring was About a credit card width shifted it the bolt side like it wasn’t lined up properly when the holes were drilled. In both cases It’s just cosmetic but after my long wait I didn’t mind waiting even a little longer to get it right. It’s a better quality mount than anything up to the $150 price point by far. I would recommend them to everyone. Worlds of difference in better quality than a Burris PEPR.

I use a YHM or Leupold riser with Leupold QRW or Warne QD rings. Works great and allows me to remove and re-attach the scope while retaining my zero.

I have no reason to have a QD set up on this rig. I wanted a permanent mount set up as I will never install open sights on this heavy barreled target rifle. I have larue lt104’s on my short barrel tactical rifles for that reason. This setup is for a long range predator rig. From Warne’s testing this mount goes back to axact Zero as well if removed. For the $46.99 i paid imo there isn’t a better option out there. Warne instructs to torque the 1/2” base nuts at 65 in pounds. I will guarantee you a PEPR or anything else under a $150 will strip using this much tourque, if not you’ll only be able to to do it two to three times at most before it strips out. Imo there is not a mount on the planet that will go back to exact zero when you take your scope on and off so you're always going to have to check you're zero and shoot it again don't want that on a Precision varminter Predator rig that I have to check all the time and there's no reason for me to have to remove the scope once mounted on a heavy barrel Predator rifle.

Mounted it today. I was a little nervous torquing the base nuts to warne’s suggested 65 inch pounds. That’s a lot of torque! I cleaned the threads and put a dab of lock tite blue on them before torquing. I also cleaned off the the scope ring screws and thread holes and put a dab on them as well. 25 ln pounds of torque and a little rosin. I was excited to find out I had enough eye relief at 14x on my Nikon pro staff 5 4.5x14 40 mm to be able to mount it forward of the charging handle so I have good clearance when charging my rifle. I can’t believe how this mount is built so solid and able to take the torque specs it does! Great mount!!! Don’t know why it’s not more popular with the shooters on this site. It’s not much more money than the PEPR and actually the same price or better if you shop around and is a thousand times better quality.

I use the riser/QR rings on all of my rifles, target or otherwise. It's nice to be able to switch out optics or remove them completely for cleaning purposes. When I was shooting some local 3-gun stuff it enabled me to switch between optics depending on the stage. You are right about re-checking zero (and I do), and I have had my POI move slightly before, but they mostly seem to stay spot on. The only shooting I do now is off the bench at 100 and 200 yards (I quit hunting and comps years ago) and it works great for my needs. BTW, the Warne system looks great...will have take a harder look at them.

Where did you find it for $47?

I've been using the Aero Precision SPR mounts and been happy with eye relief. I have enough room for charging handle but on some red dots I'll use a side latch gunfighter charging handle I always mark my permanent and qd mounts with Larue index clips to mark them since most uppers don't have t marks. When I mount a scope I'll shoulder the rifle with my eyes closed, get comfortable then open my eyes and see how well I can see out of the scope, make adjustment then repeat. That way I'm not sub consciously adjusting my head for sight if that makes sense.

Optics planet advertised it for $41 shipped and wouldn’t honor the price. They told me they screwed up on the price after advertising at $47 all weekend and then dropped it to $41 with free shipping. I posted on this if look at my past posts. I ended up getting it from another source as a one time price to honor their screw up...and was asked not to reveal where I got it from because they didn’t want to publicize that they horned optics planets screw up. I was told the cost on them was close to $80 so they were loosing money by selling it to me but wanted to make it right. I’m sure you will figure out where I received it from but I can’t tell....and they won’t sell any 20 MOA mounts mounts for that any more.it was a one time ordeal. I called and talked to the right person who took care Of me. Right time, right place. It took 2 and a half months of waiting for it if not more. I believe it was January or February when this fiasco happened and I finally received it about two weeks ago. The last I checked you could buy a non 20 MOA mount on eBay for $66 Brand new in various colors. I’m sure it’s the same mount just not canted.

I like Areo but would never use one of their flimsy scope mounts to save my life. I’ve seen too many broke from over torquing or just brake after extended use. Guess if I had a paperweight AR15 I’d try it to shave weight but would be paranoid the whole time I owned it. That goofy latch on top of the rings is the weak point and brakes. It also causes optics to shift when tightening. No thanks. Bad design imo and many others will agree. There are quite a few broke with examples across the net if you google them. You’ll find More Areo mounts broke across the net than most others combined.

Here’s the rant...

2nd time, sorry.

I use ARMS QD Mounts on all my AR's. Why, because I take my scopes off. So I can clean my upper.
If I get caught in a rainstorm. My scope goes in a plastic bag and then in my backpack.
ARMS mounts go back in the same place and do not lose zero. I can change scopes if I need too.
I can go from glass to Night Vision and to a red dot. They may cost more but they are worth it.
They put helicoils in all the threaded holes.

Over the weekend I dropped an AR with an Aero mount on concrete. It bent my scope. Mount is fine. I always torque to specs. We'll see how the Burris Veracity ffp lifetime warranty works...
